Bleaching by Advanced Dental Services. Dentistry Dental in Spain.

Discolouration of the teeth can have many different causes: nicotine, caffeine, or tannins present in wine, and other colorants stored in the crystalline structure of your teeth. Some medicines (e.g. penicillin) and trace elements (like flouride) can cause staining. The ageing process also has its effects on the colour of teeth.

At home or at the Clinic?

Bleaching discoloured teeth can be done at home or in a dental clinic. In both cases, the surface of the teeth must be thoroughly cleaned before beginning the whitening process. It is also important that the gums are healthy.

Please be aware that if you have any fillings that match the current colour of your teeth, these fillings will not take the bleach. Renewing these fillings is worthwhile, at least in the visible front area.

Store-bought teeth whitening is generally milder and it takes multiple applications over time to reach the desired results, while bleaching at a dental clinic will be done in one sitting with a bleaching crème applied to the teeth and the use of UV light. The substance used in teeth whitening or bleaching should under no circumstances come into contact wth the gums, as that can result in serious damage. When the process is finished, flouride must be used to harden the lightened tooth enamel.
